Good Fragging Morning

  • October
  • 22

The air was thick today, air scrubbers fragged out again, third time this month and the sector’s amenities joblog is backed up till next week, ‘we’ll get right on it’ they say cheerily, yeah sure, and I think I’ll eat real meat tonight.  Particulate matter, that’s what our air’s made up of, the skin, dirt and shit of millions of people, all crammed, squeezed and huddled together.  It’s not pretty down here below the 60th, sure the vids make out it’s OK, but who trusts the media these days…that’s why you’re downloading this rant and not watching ‘NovaBall Wives’.
I got out of the alleyway where my apartment opens onto, the air improved, marginally, but I’m out in the rain and it was stinging bad today, I reached into my pocket and pulled out a pair of disposable contacts.  I can handle acid bleached hair, but it’s a pisser to have to get a new left eye for sake of a few ChinYen from an autovend.  The street was busy this morning, people heading to the beginning or end of their twelves, pushing through the crowd I caught a few disgruntled stares, nobody says hello, this sector isn’t known for being a nice place to live.  Down here, people have got little money, even less patience and a whole heap of problems.
As I’m walking along, minding my own business, just a little rushed, this kid grabs me and shoves me into a wall.  He’s got a pair of those wheeled trainers on, the ones that let them glide along without any effort, before I know it he’s got a snub-nosed flechette pistol stuck in my ribs.  He wants ChinYen, anything I’ve got on me and my shoulder bag.  This kid’s maybe ten, but he isn’t kidding.
I got a few looks as I gave the kid a right hook, sending him flying off his feet.  The next thing I know he’s bawling on the sidewalk and I’ve got a MetroCon cop breathing down my neck.
Shit I know we’ve all got our problems, but if you’re raising kids, at least tell them how to switch the safety off.

The Long Twilight Struggle…

  • October

Councillor Darren NorOver a month ago, DysToday was raided by the Ministry of Information under a directive from Councillor Darren Nor’s ‘Free Media Committee’. After seizing all our computers and interrogating our staff, we have finally been released and all charges have been dropped. Councillor Nor’s (pictured right) media corporate allegiances aside, we’re impressed that the Dystopia judicial system has honoured the right to freedom of the press and we’re busy rebuilding our systems in preparation for a comeback to regular service.

Oh, and watch out for our special feature on Councillor Darren Nor, we’ve got some interesting information to share on this ‘respectable’ public official.
